"Helping to make your new house, your new HOME."
I started in home renovations over twenty years ago working my way through college by hanging and finishing drywall. As the years unfolded, I worked alongside licensed contractors in all aspects of home building and renovations. This gave me rare insight into the process of building a home. As it turns out, this is a rare commodity most other home inspectors do not have. Sad to say, but many other companies, especially larger "multi-inspector" companies, speak loud but carry a small stick. Their often too busy caring about profit and volume, rather than quality of service. After working for another company in 2014, I couldn't take any more. Southern Comfort Home Inspections, LLC was born in 2015 in an effort to do what so many others were not doing, and still aren't.
As a long time member of the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI), the certifications that you see below were earned through hours of study and aided by 20+ years of hands-on work. Experience and education is key. This keeps the service extremely reliable, highly knowledgeable and ultra current in this ever-changing industry ... and YOU certainly deserve that. As a small one man company, having the privilege to conduct a home inspection is not taken lightly. The philosophy is simple, yet extremely rare: Approach every home the same, like a blank canvas. You may be saying, "Wait...shouldn't you expect defects?" Short answer....yes. However, I do it differently. Other inspectors can be full of reproach, heavy-handed and even cause problems or make them worse just to make a point (I have seen this). They like to flex their "inspector muscles" in an attempt to be the "end-all-be-all". Or, the simply do a terrible job from start to finish, an all to common problem in this industry. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! SCHI uses the 20 plus years of construction experience, hours and hours of study, open eyes and ears, plus a strong set of standards called the Tennessee Standards of Practice (link below), to let the home "tell" me what it needs and what it doesn't. Call me "The House Whisperer".
The mission, "helping to make your new house, your new home", means taking as much time as YOU need to understand the condition of your home. Ultimately, in the midst of all the stress that comes with the buying process, I want you to enjoy the inspection process. After all, this is one of the single biggest purchases you will make in your lifetime. As you will see on the pricing page, SCHI, LLC is not the cheapest. This is because I will take and include MORE photos in your report than anyone else and your report will take from 1-3 hours (post inspection) to generate. All-in-all there may be 6-8 hours in each inspection.
Always know your free to ask as many questions as you can think of and show me all your concerns so that we can work through them and explain them in a way that lets you move forward with confidence and knowledge. Thank you for considering Southern Comfort Inspections, LLC for your home inspection.

What's your daily schedule look like? Inspections start at 9:30 with client meeting around 12. Next inspection begins at 2 with client meeting around 4:15. I do NOT do three inspections in a day because its not about quantity, it's about quality. Be cautious of inspectors that say they do three in a day. I make it home about 5:30-6pm and have a little family time. At around 7 pm I begin the process of getting clients their information. That can take 2-4 hours.
What do you like about what you do? HELPING PEOPLE.
What do you not like about it? Seeing poor quality of work without oversight from builders. Hearing people say a house "should be fine" based on how its "renovated". Also I hate seeing any problems develop after the owner moves in. And yes, problems will happen. It could take minutes or years. Homeowners fail to realize the inspection is only a brief visual snapshot of the home and cannot predict any issues that may develop from inclement weather, time, gravity or just plain failure of a system. That's the downside.
