"Helping to make your new house, your new HOME."
I started in home renovations over twenty years ago working my way through college by hanging and finishing drywall. Over the years I ventured into other areas of home renovations, like pouring concrete, framing, plumbing and electrical. Being able to see other aspects of home building gave me a rare "full picture" insight into what goes in to home building. As it turns out, that's an insight that most other home inspectors do not have. Sad to say, but many other companies try to sell you short and over-promise, especially the larger "multi-inspector" companies. Their often too busy caring about profit, rather than quality of service. After working for one of these, in the fall of 2014, I decided that wasn't the right approach if quality was a priority.....and so....Southern Comfort Home Inspections, LLC was born. Why "Southern Comfort"? Because of the approach. I believe the approach should be one that doesn't sound the alarm, but is easy, open and comfortable.
As a proud member of the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI), the certifications that you see below were earned through hours of study and 20+ years of hard work. I take education seriously, always have and always will. This keeps me reliable, knowledgeable and current in this ever-changing industry ... and YOU certainly deserve that. As a one man company, having the privilege to conduct a home inspection is not taken lightly. My philosophy is simple, yet extremely rare: Approach every home like its a clean slate. You may be saying, "Wait...shouldn't you look for defects?" Short answer....yes. However, I do it differently. Other inspectors usually want things to be wrong, and sometimes, they cause problems or make them worse just to make a point (I have seen this). They like to flex their "inspector muscles" in an attempt to be the "end-all-be-all". Then, they scare the heck out of you with their heavy-handed jargon and of-the-wall opinions leaving you more stressed than when you started. Or, the simple do a crappy job from start to finish, an all to common problem in this industry. At Southern Comfort Home Inspections, LLC, I say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I have innovated a new approach, one that focuses on you and respects the process you are embarking on. This may sound crazy (believe me I get it), but I let the property "speak" to me. I use the 20 plus years of construction experience, hours and hours of study, open eyes and ears, plus a strong set of standards called the Tennessee Standards of Practice (link below), to let the home "tell" me what it needs and what it doesn't. Call me "The House Whisperer".
My mission, "helping to make your new house, your new home", means taking as much time as YOU need to understand the condition of your home. Ultimately, in the midst of all the stress that comes with the buying process, I want you to enjoy the inspection process. After all, this is one of the single biggest purchases you will make in your lifetime. As you will see on the pricing page, I am not the cheapest. This is because I will take and include MORE photos in your report than anyone else. I will spend more time on your report. Always know your free to ask as many questions as you can think of and show me all your concerns so that we can work through them and explain them in a way that lets you move forward with confidence and knowledge. Thank you for considering Southern Comfort Inspections, LLC for your home inspection.
FUN FACTS
Favorite color: Aqua or Teal
Favorite music: All of it.
Favorite food: Anything prepared by a pro in a nice restaurant!
Favorite sport: Always been fond of baseball but tough to not like football just as much.
Spare time? Love to be outside with my wife, exploring the world and having our two kids see what God created.
What's your daily schedule look like? Inspections start at 9:30 with client meetings around 11:45. Next inspection begins at 2 with client meeting around 4:15. I generally do not do three inspections in a day because its not about quantity, it's about quality. Be cautious of inspectors that say they do three in a day. I make it home about 5:30-6pm and have a little family time. At around 7:30 pm I begin the process of getting clients their information. That can take 2-4 hours.
What do you like about what you do? HELPING PEOPLE. Secondly, I like seeing new places every day.
What do you not like about it? Seeing poor quality of work from builders or hearing people say a house "should be fine" based on how its decorated or painted. Also I hate seeing any problems develop after the owner moves in. And yes, problems will happen. It could take minutes or years. Homeowners fail to realize the inspection is only a brief visual snapshot of the home and cannot predict any issues that may develop from inclement weather, time, gravity or just plain failure of a system. That's the downside.
